Binance Exec Tigran Gambaryan Leaves Firm, Months After Nigerian Hostage Crisis
Tigran Gambaryan, the head of financial crime compliance at Binance, has left the firm to pursue new opportunities in the public or private sectors. Announcing his departure on LinkedIn, Gambaryan expressed his desire to take on new challenges after serving at Binance for four years. He played a crucial role in building a compliance team of around 100 former prosecutors and law enforcement agents, responding to over 57,000 law enforcement requests during his tenure. Gambaryan's exit follows a notable incident in 2024 when he was detained in Nigeria for eight months under allegations related to his role at Binance, though he was released after his health deteriorated. His departure adds to a series of executive exits from Binance in recent years, particularly following the legal challenges faced by the exchange's founder and changes in leadership. Gambaryan aims to continue his work in technology compliance and enforcement, contributing to sectors that require trusted operators who can bridge technology and regulation.
