Binance Exec Tigran Gambaryan Leaves Firm, Months After Nigerian Hostage Crisis
Tigran Gambaryan, the head of financial crime compliance at Binance, departed from the crypto exchange to explore new job opportunities in the public or private sector. His resignation comes shortly after a significant ordeal in which he was detained by Nigerian authorities for eight months in 2024 under various allegations tied to his role at Binance. In a LinkedIn post, Gambaryan expressed his intent to focus on new challenges, highlighting his experience in technology compliance gained during his tenure at Binance since 2021. During his time, he led a team of about 100 professionals aimed at aligning Binance with U.S. and international enforcement standards, responding to over 57,000 law enforcement requests. His departure adds to the list of recent executive exits at Binance following legal challenges faced by the company and its founder, Changpeng Zhao, including accusations related to violations of anti-money laundering laws. Gambaryan's experience as a former IRS agent positions him for future roles where expertise in compliance and enforcement is essential.
