BFI charity allocates $90M, pledges $200M for health, climate initiatives
Blockchain For Impact (BFI), founded by Sandeep Nailwal, co-founder of Polygon, has allocated $90 million to boost biomedical research, innovate healthcare, and enhance climate resilience. Additionally, BFI plans to deploy $200 million to assist healthcare startups, expand biomedical research, and support public health systems. It has invested in various healthcare projects in India, including solar-powered health centers and a floating hospital for flood-prone areas. BFI highlights the transparency enabled by blockchain technology, allowing donations to be tracked and verified online, fostering accountability. During the COVID-19 crisis, BFI contributed $68 million for relief efforts. Reports show that BFI's donations represent 9% of total global cryptocurrency contributions, indicating a surge in crypto philanthropy. The landscape for crypto donations continues to evolve, with growing acceptance among charities globally, including significant organizations like Save the Children, which has received millions in cryptocurrency contributions. As cryptocurrency usage expands, the need for secure donation solutions grows, potentially enhancing charitable revenue significantly. A study indicates nonprofits with higher transparency see a notable increase in contributions the following year.
