Berachain, a new layer-1 blockchain built on a proof-of-liquidity model, has launched its mainnet while initiating its $1.1 billion BERA token airdrop. Trading for the BERA token commenced on major exchanges, peaking at $14.83 before dropping to around $8.00. The airdrop allocated 15.75% of the total BERA supply, amounting to 79 million tokens, with over 55 million tokens directly available to users at launch. The airdrop was part of a strategy to reward the community that supported Berachain's development. Future incentives include an additional 65.5 million BERA tokens reserved for users, developers, and applications. The project, which identifies itself as EVM-identical, allows seamless integration with popular wallets, enabling users to manage their tokens easily. Co-founder Smokey the Bera expressed enthusiasm for the launch and commitment to ongoing support for the community and developers engaged with Berachain.
