Argentinian Investigation Unit Dissolved After Sharing Findings With Prosecutors
The Argentinian government has dissolved a special investigative unit, the Unidad de Tareas de Investigación (UTI), which was set up to probe the connections between President Javier Milei and his sister with the LIBRA memecoin. The dissolution occurred after the unit submitted its findings to the public prosecutor's office. According to the ministry of justice, the unit had achieved its objectives. The investigation was supported by various government agencies, including the central bank and the anti-corruption office. In February, President Milei's comments on LIBRA resulted in a surge in the coin's market capitalization to $4.5 billion, before it precipitously dropped over 80%. LIBRA's co-creator, Hayden Davies, had previously indicated that he could exert influence over Milei due to payments made to the President's sister, who plays a significant role in Milei's administration.
