Two men accused of kidnapping and torturing a Bitcoin investor in New York City have pleaded not guilty. Their lawyers argue that the alleged victim was free to move about which contradicts claims that he was held captive. Videos purportedly show the accuser engaging in activities with others, including using drugs. The lawyers contend that the accuser's narrative is inconsistent, noting that witnesses reported he moved about freely during the days he was supposedly kidnapped. The individuals, William Duplessie and John Woeltz, face serious charges including first-degree kidnapping and assault, which could lead to life in prison if convicted. Prosecutors claim the victim was tortured with electric shocks and physical beatings while attempts were made to access his cryptocurrency assets. Additionally, evidence like a chainsaw and a loaded pistol was found, supporting the accusations of violent misconduct. A third suspect has been arrested in relation to the plot. The court has denied bail for the accused, who are scheduled to appear again on July 15, 2025.
