Alabama, Minnesota lawmakers join US states pushing for Bitcoin reserves
Lawmakers in Minnesota and Alabama have filed bills allowing each state to invest in Bitcoin. Minnesota's Bitcoin Act, introduced by Representative Bernie Perryman, enables the state investment board to invest assets in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, permits state employees to include crypto in retirement accounts, and exempts crypto gains from state income taxes. In Alabama, Senators introduced similar bills limiting state crypto investments to assets with a market value of at least $750 billion, which Bitcoin currently meets. This legislative move is part of a broader trend, with bills proposed to create Bitcoin reserves in 26 US states, though many efforts have faced challenges. Arizona is leading the initiative, while states like Pennsylvania have seen prior Bitcoin reserve initiatives fail. The differentiation among states on this issue often stems from political divisions, particularly between the Republican and Democratic parties.
