Acting SEC Chair Mark Uyeda has announced the formation of a new Crypto Task Force and appointed three key members to its executive staff. The task force aims to create a clear regulatory framework for crypto assets. Among the appointees, Richard Gabbert, a former legal counsel to crypto-friendly Commissioner Hester Pierce, will serve as chief of staff. Taylor Asher, who has been a senior policy advisor to Uyeda, will take on the role of chief policy advisor. Landon Zinda, previously with the crypto think tank Coin Center, will act as counsel to Uyeda and a senior advisor for the task force. The SEC’s move to establish this task force follows former Chairman Gary Gensler's resignation and marks a shift away from the agency’s prior approach of regulatory enforcement. The SEC acknowledges that its previous method has created confusion in the crypto space, which has hindered innovation and allowed for fraudulent activities. The task force intends to coordinate with Congress, the crypto industry, and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to clarify regulations and registration processes, addressing the concerns raised by the industry.
